Nov 30th - Steep Ladies 'A' draw against Haslemere 'A'

Steep Ladies 'A' travelled to Haslemere on a sub-zero blustery evening.

Haslemere are always tough opposition for Steep and Monday evening was no exception.

Steep's first pair Captain Cathy Robinson and partner Ann Saunders, who were both nursing injuries, made heavy weather of the Haslemere 2nd pair but eventually won through 7-6 6-3. Against the Haslemere 1st pair Robinson and Saunders found themselves under a hail of winning shots and were down 1-6 1-5. However, Robinson's lightening quick reflex volleys and Saunders' skilled tactical play clawed back 4 games one after another and levelled the set 5-5 with Haslemere 0-30 down when the lighting curfew was applied, the match abandoned and Steep were awarded the set.

Steep's 2nd pair Karen Deane and Judy Ross lost against the Haslemere first pair 1-6 1-6 but played some fine tennis and managed to draw against the 2nd pair. Deane was able to execute some of her telling drop shots and some fine passing shots from Ross sealed the vital set, enabling a well deserved draw for Steep. ( Many thanks to both Cathy and Ann for very extensive reports of this match)
