Steep Ladies 'A', recent champions of the East Hants Summer League Div 1, have carried on their winning ways in the winter competition, when beating Swanmore 'A' 5-3 at Church Road Steep.

The team was particularly pleased as Swanmore's 4 included GB player Di Hill. Steep's 1st pair, Cathy Robinson (Capt) and Ann Saunders managed to draw against the Swanmore 1st pair, 6-1, 1-6, a game of mixed fortunes. In the first set the local duo played consistently and mixed up their returns and played some penetrating topspin lobs to keep the opposition away from the net. In the second set Robinson and Saunders relaxed a bit and Hill and her partner began to take charge. The Steep pair beat Swanmore's 2nd pair 6-2, 6-3, when once again the combination of Saunders' groundstrokes and Robinson's attacking volleys paid dividends. Steep's 2nd pair Tanya Murray and Penny Curran lost to Swanmore's 1st pair 2-6, 1-6 despite taking them to a lot of deuces. In the second match against their opposite pair Curran and Murray tightened their grip and won 6-1, 6-4. The pair only playing together for the second time have formed a good partnership with their blend of hard flat forehands, steady backhands and some drop shots to boot !
