On a glorious day the Mixed 'A's played their first match of the Winter League.

Sadly, their opponents Alresford could only muster one pair, after one of their ladies had been rushed to A&E the night before. The gutsy and dedicated Judy Unwin and her partner Graham Lumb made the trip over by themselves and took on both pairs with enthusiasm. While Ann Saunders (Capt) and Duncan Read had a Saturday morning lie-in (not together !) Cathy Robinson and Martin Sharp were battling out the first match, drawing 5-6, 6-3. Cathy and Martin were then free to go leaving the first pair who had arrived in timely fashion. After a nice little knock- up together Ann and Duncan won their match fairly convincingly 6-3, 6-1 with both getting some very sportsmanlike praise from the opposition. Duncan's serves and smashes were zippingly successful and Ann's passing shots down Graham's line kept the lanky slicer away from the centre of the court for most of the rest of the match
