The criteria used for the membership of each squad will be reviewed by the Sub-Committee that will be formed in due course to agree SLTC's 2010 teams.

Competitive Teams at Steep LTC

Teams

 

For a number of years Steep LTC has entered teams in local leagues for the membership to take part in. There are currently 3 leagues Steep enters: East Hants, Portsmouth and Isle of Wight (PIOW), and Hampshire and IOW.

Squad Selection Sub Committee

 

The sub committee meets before the start of the summer season to review members of the squads and to see if there are any members who should be asked to represent the club in specific teams.

 

The sub committee for the 2009 season was;

 

Ben Russ – Committee Member

Ann Saunders – Ladies A Captain

Helen Marsh – Ladies B Captain

Gene Stoddart – Fixtures Secretary

Duncan Read – former Fixtures Secretary

 

Captains

 

Each team is captained by an experienced squad member who selects teams for each fixture depending on the quality of the opposition and the availability of squad members. The Captain either volunteers or is approached by the Fixtures Secretary who needs to balance the number of candidates and the experience of those candidates when asking a squad member to lead a team for the season.

 

The captains of each squad select members for each team. Captains need to consider the opportunities for new players to represent the club and the known quality of the opposition so that matches are competitive.  

 

East Hants League Nominated Players

 

The East Hants League operates a nomination system.  Each squad must have four nominated players. The squad captain is an automatic nominee and he/she has responsibility for selecting , with their consent, the other three nominated players for the squad.

 

 A nominated player in the A squad can"t "play-down" for the B or C teams. A player can "play-up", for example a B squad member can play for the A team, but only on 2 occasions. If that member "plays-up" for a third time they can no longer "play-down" for the rest of the season. A player who is not nominated may ‘"play up" and "play down" throughout the lower teams if happy to do so.

 

Squad Membership

 

Members may be included in squads of different categories.  For example a lady may be a member of Ladies B, Mixed B, and Vets".
